For off-grid homes and cabins with a 48V bank; EG4 recommends at least 200Ah of battery capacity per inverter.
The EG4 6000XP (also referenced as SKU 1511090 by other retailers) is an affordable and scalable split-phase, all-in-one, pure sine wave inverter with a 115A battery charger designed to deliver 120/240Vac power. It delivers 6kW of output power and accepts up to 8kW of PV input. It is compatible with 48V battery banks and is intended for standalone and off-grid applications. It can act as a UPS to provide uninterrupted power to critical loads or prioritize renewable sources, automatically utilizing the grid or generator as additional power when needed. The 6000XP is a high-frequency transformerless inverter with an idle consumption of 60W. This lightweight design does not sacrifice capability as it supports a surge capacity of 12kW for 3.5 seconds. One inverter can power 6kW, or a vacuum, two large LED TVs, a fridge-freezer, an internet router, two cooking stations on an electric stove, 10 LED light bulbs and a computer all at once. Up to 16 units join together for a total output to 96kW. Every connection has its own disconnect to maintain safety. The PV switch on the side is a PV disconnect for inverter-side maintenance, although separate PV disconnects are still recommended closer to the solar panels. This unit supports closed loop battery communication with EG4 48V batteries and various third-party BMS protocols to allow a quick view of voltage, current, and SOC% (state of charge) coming directly from the battery. Lead-acid mode is used for open loop communication for any 48V battery paired with the 6000XP. EG4 recommends a minimum battery capacity of 200Ah or more per inverter. The built-in LCD screen indicates current power flow, displays any warning or fault codes, and allows full access to setting changes. The included Wi-Fi adapter, or upgradable ethernet adapter or cellular adapter, enables the inverter to connect to EG4’s Monitor Center. The monitoring center provides real-time operational status, historical data, setting changes, easy commissioning of the inverter, and firmware updates. When using an inverter with other AC sources such as shore power or a generator, it’s crucial to prevent multiple connections between neutral and ground. The 6000XP can be configured to create an internal neutral-ground bond, however, this feature is not dynamic and does not react to changes in input sources. The 6000XP can however source power from these sources when needed.
